Fortunately, wherever you choose to stay in Protaras, all the amenities you need are within walking distance or really close by. Another amazing activity, for when it’s not too hot, is to visit the area’s exciting nature trails for a hike or a bicycle ride in order to enjoy the abundant flora and fauna. Especially Cape Greko National Park has enormous ecological value and offers one of the most unforgettable experiences to nature lovers. Alternatively, you can go for a stroll and gaze at the truly magical and breathtaking sunset that reflects on the turquoise water. While exploring the area, don’t forget to visit some gorgeous small chapels that you cant find anywhere else in the entire island. Agios Nicolaos chapel is a simple yet stunning whitewashed chapel with a blue painted dome, overlooking the scenic harbour where fishermen tie their colourful boats, creating a charming sight. Another chapel definitely worth visiting is the Byzantine church of Profitis Elias. What renders this chapel truly unique is the fact that it is built on a 100-metre high granite hill, offering the most breathtaking views. You should also visit the chapel during the evening when it is illuminated, in order to admire its beauty in all its glory. While at first having to climb 153 steps may sound discouraging, the stunning view will definitely compensate for the extra cardio! Another worth exploring chapel is that of Agioi Saranta, a very unusual church, situated on an intact cave that includes forty stalactites. Actually, it is the stalactites that inspired a Christian to turn this mysterious and idyllic location into a pilgrimage site. For a cultural journey, you should also visit the 13th century Byzantine chapel of Agia Anna, which functions as an ecclesiastical museum, where you can admire 16th and 19th centuries icons, holy relics, and old books. If you follow the nature trail of Profitis Elias to Konnos, you will arrive at the chapel of Agios Ioannis, which, albeit humble, has a serene and mystical atmosphere. Finally, the stone-built chapel of Agios Panteleimonas with its wonderful wooden roof has some stunning frescoes to admire in the hagiographed interior of the church. The chapel is actually built on top of two previously destroyed chapels while it is surrounded by spectacular landscape that will satisfy every eye.
