The days are shorter, the temperatures fall, and so it’s time to get cozy and embrace all that this season brings us. During the winter months, we tend to spend much more time indoors and so it’s important to make sure our home is a comfortable and welcoming space in which to spend our time and entertain our friends and family. Whether you’re curling up on the sofa with a good book, enjoying a movie night with your family, or serving up a hearty meal to your friends, you’ll want to change up your décor for the new season to make sure your home has a warm and cozy feel. Here we bring you some tips and ideas for easy ways to make your home a winter paradise of comfort and joy!

Add timeless ambiance with candles

There’s something so comforting about candlelight, the flicker of the flame is almost mesmerizing. They bring a festive feel to any room and can lighten up a dark corner on the gloomiest of winter days. Of course, you need to be careful with naked flames in the house, particularly if you have children or pets, but there are plenty of electronic alternatives these days that look very realistic, and even bring you more options such as color-changing candles. You can opt for a warm white for winter, then switch to multicolor for a little extra fun at Christmas time.

Bring the outdoors in

At this time of year, you’ll find evergreen plants look so luscious. When there’s less blooming in the garden, it’s so nice to bring some foliage indoors. The mantelpiece and windowsills can be given a whole new vibe with swags of greenery, and all you need to do when Christmas approaches is to add some red or gold ribbons, and perhaps some bright sparkling baubles or fairy lights.

Make your home warmer with textiles

A room will both look and feel warmer when you add in some extra textiles. Think deep pile rugs to sink your toes into, fleecy blankets to pull over yourself when you’re relaxing, and extra cushions to bring further comfort on a chilly day.

Bedeck the walls with artwork and mirrors

With winter interior décor you can get away with your walls being a little busier than you may prefer in the summer months. During the spring and summer, minimalist, light and airy design is always great, but for winter a little clutter can make a space feel reassuringly comforting, particularly if the room is large. Create your own oasis of calm and opulence with a collection of artwork and some stylish mirrors. Go with your instincts and pick pieces that you love, because of course, you’ll be indoors more over the winter so you’ll want artwork that you enjoy looking at. The pieces don’t need to match, an eclectic collection can certainly work well, even if the frames are as mismatched as the pictures. Or pick pieces with a common theme or color, it really is up to you.

Lighten up dark days with lights

During the winter months, the days can be dark and gloomy so some extra lighting will help to stop the winter blues from creeping in. Ensure you have lighting for every occasion, and focus on some great mood lighting with reading lamps, and some accent lighting such as fairy lights. Pretty lights don’t have to be just for Christmas, choose white lights and they can be a feature all winter.
